Slapping a Fancy Name on Nokias New Smartphone Cameras Wont Make Them Good. Nokias smartphones have long been known for having great cameras. Classic devices like the N9. Pure. View 2. 01. Lumia 1. 02. 0 2. But will Nokias upcoming Android smartphones be just as great now that HMD Global is manufacturing themThis week, HMD Global announced a partnership with Zeiss Camera that aims to set new imaging standards within the smartphone industry. The partnership will cover several facets of the camera experience on Nokia devices, including software, screen quality, and optics. Although this seems promising, because previous Nokia phones were equipped with Zeiss lenses, its important to recognize this as more marketing than substance. No matter how reputable Nokia and Zeiss names are, sometimes branding does nothing to improve the actual performance of a smartphones camera. We saw this recently when Leica branded cameras on the Huawei P9 turned out to be OEM garbage. Camera components are obviously really important to smartphone cameras, but a brand name isnt what makes them good. F9156' alt='The New Pepe Le Pew Movie Trailers' title='The New Pepe Le Pew Movie Trailers' />What made Nokias old models so good was that they used the companys own image sampling technologies, which gave the devices a competitive edge in the oversaturated smartphone market. Meanwhile the i. Phone and Samsungs Galaxy S8 currently lead the pack on smartphone camera tech with no fancy camera branding at all. HMD Globals new smartphones might have the Nokia branding and the Zeiss lenses, but importantly, they lack the software DNA that made Nokia smartphones good phone cameras. Itll be interesting to see what the smartphones specifics are once HMD decides to reveal more information on the new Nokia line. So far theres only been a leaked video of possibly the rumored Nokia 9 with dual rear cameras, but it doesnt have Zeiss logo on the back. The new partnership might help HMD upgrade the model prior to launch. HMD Global. BibMe Free Bibliography Citation Maker MLA, APA, Chicago, Harvard. Warner Bros. Cartoons Wikipedia. Warner Bros. Harman Ising ProductionseditHugh Harman and Rudolf Ising originated the Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies series of animated short subjects in 1. Both cartoon series were produced for Leon Schlesinger at the Harman Ising Studio on Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood, California, with Warner Bros. Pictures releasing the films to theaters. The first Looney Tunes character was the Harman Ising creation Bosko, The Talk ink Kid. Despite the fact that Bosko was popular among theater audiences, he could never match the popularity of Walt Disneys Mickey Mouse, or even Max Fleischers Betty Boop. In 1. 93. 3, Harman and Ising parted company with Schlesinger over financial disputes,2 and took Bosko with them to Metro Goldwyn Mayer. As a result, Schlesinger set up his own studio on the Warner Bros. Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood. Leon Schlesinger Productionsedit. Former Leon Schlesinger Warner Bros. Cartoons studio, 2. The Schlesinger studio got off to a slow start, continuing their one shot Merrie Melodies and introducing a Bosko replacement named Buddy into the Looney Tunes. Disney animator Tom Palmer was the studios first senior director, but after the three cartoons he made were deemed to be of unacceptable quality and rejected by the studio, former Harman Ising animatormusical composer Isadore Friz Freleng was called in to replace Palmer and rework his cartoons where every cartoon Freleng directed from 1. Frelengs musical compositions and methods. The studio then formed the three unit structure that it would retain throughout most of its history, with one of the units headed by Ben Bugs Hardaway, and the other by Earl Duvall, who was replaced by Jack King a year later. In 1. 93. 5, Freleng helmed the Merrie Melodies cartoon I Havent Got a Hat, which introduced the character Porky Pig. Hardaway and King departed, and a new arrival at Schlesingers, Fred Tex Avery, took Frelengs creation and ran with it. Avery directed a string of cartoons starring Porky Pig that established the character as the studios first bona fide star. Schlesinger also gradually moved the Merrie Melodies cartoons from black and white, to two strip Technicolor in 1. Technicolor in 1. The Looney Tunes series would be produced in black and white for much longer, until 1. Because of the limited spacing conditions in the Schlesinger building at 1. N. Van Ness on the Warner Sunset lot, Avery and his unit including animators Robert Clampett and Chuck Jones were moved into a small building elsewhere on the Sunset lot, which Avery and his team affectionately dubbed Termite Terrace. Although the Avery unit moved out of the building after a year, Termite Terrace later became a metonym for the classic Warner Bros. During this period, four cartoons were outsourced to the Ub Iwerks studio however, Iwerks struggled to adapt his style to the type of humor that the Looney Tunes had developed by this time, and so Clampett took over as director using Iwerks staff for the last two of these outsourced cartoons. Schlesinger was so impressed by Clampetts work on these shorts that he opened a fourth unit for Clampett to head, although for tax reasons this was technically a separate studio headed by Schlesingers brother in law, Ray Katz. From 1. 93. 6 until 1. Freleng, Avery, Clampett, Jones, Arthur Davis, Robert Mc. Kimson, and Frank Tashlin worked at the studio. During this period, these creators introduced several of the most popular cartoon characters to date, including Daffy Duck 1. Porkys Duck Hunt by Avery, Elmer Fudd 1. Elmers Candid Camera by Jones, Bugs Bunny 1. A Wild Hare by Avery, and Tweety 1. A Tale of Two Kitties by Clampett. Avery left the studio in 1. Schlesinger, who shortly after closed the studio for two weeks due to a minor strike similar to the better known one that occurred at Disney. A few months earlier he banished all unionized employees in what became known in retrospective as the Looney Tune Lockout this time Schlesinger lost nearly all of his employees of the Avery unit. Clampett and several of his key animators took over Averys former unit, while Clampetts own position as director of the Schlesinger Katz studio was taken by Norm Mc. Cabe, a Clampett animator whose cartoons focused in war related humor Mc. Cabe in turn lasted barely a year before being drafted, and Frank Tashlin returned to the studio to replace him. By 1. 94. 2, the Schlesinger studio had surpassed Walt Disney Productions as the most successful producer of animated shorts in the United States. Between 1.
